Grammys 2010

January 31, 2010

Growing up in the music retail industry I thought it was fitting that my very first post for my very first blog was about the television event that is billed as “Music’s Biggest Night.” Here are my thoughts on this year’s Grammy Awards:

-Although I see the appeal of Lady Gaga I have been a little freaked out by her inability to wear pants and her obsession with covering her face with strange fabrics. Tonight she opened the Grammys with piano legend Elton John and killed it. No stranger to unique outfits, Elton John seemed to bring out not only the best performance I’ve seen from Lady Gaga but his presence also seemed to humble her. She seemed truly happy to be there and it was a great duet.
-Adding Slash to your performance will always make it awesome. Good choice Jamie Foxx!
-I’d choose Stevie Nicks over Taylor Swift any day.
-Great choices for the Michael Jackson tribute but where were my 3D glasses?
-It was heartbreaking watching Jackson’s kids speak about their deceased father.
-Why has Bon Jovi never performed at the Grammys before? Weren’t they one of the biggest hair bands of the 80s? At least they played the song I voted for!
-Are covers allowed at the Grammys? I guess they are. And if you sing like Beyonce did covering Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” you can cover any song any day.
-How cool is Jeff Bridges? Don’t you just want to hang out with him?

I love that you are now writing a blog where I can get all my music fix without even watching the Grammys! I can't wait for sarcastic, uncensored Laura!!!

The Grammy performances this year were relatively boring to me, but some did evoke funny thoughts. Upon seeing Elton John and Lady Gaga's duet, I had the epiphany that if Elton John died he would wish to be reincarnated as Lady Gaga. She always wears things to obstruct her head because her poker face is buuusstedd!!
If you were wondering what Pink has been doing all year, evidentaly she has been training for Cirque du Soleil. Upon hanging from the ceiling as if a stork was delivering her, she did sound fantastic. Apparently Lady Gaga and Pink have sparkly vaginas. Who knew?!
On a momentarily serious note, holy Zac Brown Band. Incredible voices!
I loved the Michael Jackson song. It's probably the best song he has had in years. If I had gotten the memo that the performance was going to be in 3D I would have saved my glasses from Aavatar.
Obviously I am a huge Beyonce fan and am thrilled she won best female pop vocalist. She is truly magnetic. No seriously, her dress looked like it attracted every piece of metal in the greater Los Angeles area.
The Lil' Wayne/Eminem/Drake performance was so censored it made me self conscience that I was periodicaly going deaf for 8 minutes at a time.
Finally, when Taylot Swift won album of the year I wonder if she peed herself a little thinking Kanye West was going to emerge at any time to ruin her glory again.
