At this point everyone who cares about American Idol knows that Scotty McCreery was the winner of the biggest singing competition in the country. What people might not know is just how big the two hour Idol finale has become. Here are the highlights of the finale and why I think it has officially stolen the title of “Music’s Biggest Night”:
-I gotta hand it to Idol – for every bullshit/pop packaged/Lady Gaga/shameless promotion comment, there was an artist with enough star wattage to make you forget about the millionth plug made by Ryan “Ken doll” Seacrest.
-Judas Priest makes a rare television appearance when they play “Breaking the Law” with fourth runner up James Durbin.
-Casey Abrams and apparent twin Jack Black singing Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” – and by singing I mean trading in-your-face verses. So awesome.
-Looking like Tina Turner in a sequined mini dress while shaking her moneymaker, Beyonce shows us once again just how big of a star she is while singing the song that catapulted her – “Crazy In Love.”
-Why the hell did they pair idiot Haley with the amazing Tony Bennett? She SUCKS and he is a legend. That’s all.
-I loved the montage of Steven Tyler giving the English language a run for its money this season.
-Holy 90s! TLC sings “Scrubs” and “Waterfalls” and they sounded great. Although it was tough only seeing two members.
-Good to see/hear that McCreery could hang in a duet with Tim McGraw – even though the latter’s jeans were WAY tighter.
-Hey Marc Anthony – take that shit back to the Copa Cabana. And was he really rolling his eyes at his booty shaking wife?
-No question Jennifer Lopez can dance but I think I prefer her behind the judging table.
-Thought the “most shocking” bit between Abrams and Durbin was hilarious. And yes Pia, when you got voted off that early it shocked the hell out of me.
-Why didn’t Stefano sing a Prince song during the competition like he did in the finale? I think that rendition of “Kiss” would have kept him in the game longer.
-Loved seeing Carrie Underwood and Carried Underwood Version 2.0 aka Lauren Alaina trade versus on “Before He Cheats.”
-Bono and the Edge??? Really???
-Steven Tyler on the piano was great – been waiting to see him perform all season and he did not disappoint. Scarves on the microphone, that rock and roll lean, hitting those high notes – he’s still got it!
-I wonder if the cost of commercials during the Idol finale rival that of the Superbowl.
-Congrats to Scotty – you can sing that Johnny Cash baritone to me anytime.
