It is no secret that I love lists and the latest issue of Rolling Stone features one of my favorite lists ever – the best of the best in axe wielding. With so much talent in the history of rock and roll it’s easy to name great guitarists but of course putting them in order is the hard part. It’s hard to discern what the difference is between being #45 on the list and being number #64.
Rolling Stone’s Top 10:
1) Jimi Hendrix
2) Eric Clapton
3) Jimmy Page
4) Keith Richards
5) Jeff Beck
6) B.B. King
7) Chuck Berry
8) Eddie Van Halen
9) Duane Allman
10) Pete Townshend
Here are a few of my thoughts:
-I can’t believe Stevie Ray Vaughan isn’t in the top five (he’s number 12).
-Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page should be tied for number one.
-Angus Young should, at the very least, be in the top 15 (he’s number 24).
-I’m shocked Prince isn’t in the top 20 (he’s number 33).
-Joe Perry, Richie Sambora, Nikki Sixx and Bruce Springsteen are severely underrated.
-Slash is number 65? Give me a break!
-Is Bonnie Riatt really the only female on the list? What about Joan Jett and Orianthi?
My Top 10:
1) Jimi Hendrix
2) Jimmy Page
3) Stevie Ray Vaughan
4) Eric Clapton
5) Eddie Van Halen
6) Keith Richards
7) Slash
8) Prince
9) Joe Walsh
10) Pete Townshend
Now the big question is: what do you think?
Carly Brown says
Are these 100 guitarists featured on that lovely poster someone got you for your birthday?
Laura says
